Chargers Ride 27-0 Run in 2nd Half to Blow Out Red Devils

The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team rattled off a huge second-half run to blow out Eureka JV 84-49 on Monday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
KEY MOMENTS
- An Austyn Ellison three-point play got the Red Devils within 37-32 with 17:22 to go before the Chargers (14-4) erupted for a 27-0 run over the next 6:50. Freshman forward Lane Ippensen (LaPrairie, Ill./Camp Point Central) kicked off the run with a three-point play, and freshman Jean Luc Wilson followed with an emphatic steal-and-slam. Eight different players scored on Sandburg’s 10 field goals during the stretch. The Chargers shot 60 percent (21 of 35) after halftime.
- The Chargers used an 11-0 spurt in the middle of the first half to open up a 23-8 lead before Eureka JV got back within 32-24 at the break.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Sophomore Noah Young (Colfax, Ill./Ridgeview) was one of four Chargers in double figures, tying for the team lead with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Young also had five rebounds, two assists and a steal.
OTHER TOP CHARGERS
- Freshman Vaughn Toyne (Petersburg, Ill./PORTA) matched Young’s 13 points while going 6 of 10 from the floor.
- Freshman forward Cody Baer (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) had 11 points and six rebounds.
- Wilson finished with 10 points, five rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block.
- Ippensen had eight points, a team-best seven rebounds, two assists and a steal.
